Suzie and Ian – Industrial Barn Carrick Castle Estate Wedding

If you’re looking for an industrial barn style venue for your wedding, then Carrick Castle estate, near Lochgoilhead is a brilliant place to host your celebrations.

The estate is situated in Cairndow, with a beautiful lodge with guest rooms to accomodate the bridal party. While the estate is seperate from the castle itself, you can still see the old castle from the balcony of the lodge. As well as having several guest rooms, it has a kitchen, dining area, piano, a games room, and it’s perfect for a self-catering escape, and would be a perfect escape to turn your wedding day into a celebratory weekend with close friends and family.

The barn itself is fantastic too – large and bright. I find a lot of farm style buildings -whether barns, byres, or converted stables – can be quite dark inside. While it can look atmospheric, what I loved about this venue was the use of skylights which allows gorgeous beams of natural daylight in, which is always more flattering than artificial light. While twinkling lights can be atmospheric, I personally felt that those lovely beams of light were so pretty, and I felt that it was the lightness of the building that made it distinctly different from a lot of other similar venues throughout Scotland that opt for a darker feel. The walls are beautiful too – natural wood, and soft grey concrete, which makes it a wonderful blank canvas and you can play with the combination to dress it up to suit your style of wedding.

Ian and Suzie fell in love with the estate and booked it for their wedding. I went to visit Hannah, the estate manager, before the wedding and we had a brilliant chat about their plans. Suzie and Ian were keen to have a first look, so we organised this on the balcony. It was quite special for them both to be able to have a moment together prior to the ceremony.

Ian and Suzie had their ceremony outside on the lawn, overlooking Loch Goil.

What I loved about this venue as well, is that there are lots of little hidden gems within the lodge that would work well even if the weather had been poor. Likewise, the barn is big enough to accomodate guests and still turn the room around without having to step outside. However, Suzie and Ian had the weather onside, and this meant we were able to go to the gazebo for some couple portraits during the bright midday sunshine, while Hannah’s husband drove us into the hills, up a long winding track, to the hidden gems  which made for incredible settings for golden hour portraits.

So some credits where due!
